The next installment in Microsoft’s blockbuster “Civilization” franchise has been confirmed as the next “Civilizations: Beyond” game, the studio announced Tuesday.
In an interview with Gamespot, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said the studio has been developing a “bigger” game than the first “Civil” game “to show what we can do with the technology.”
“That was a pretty big goal,” Spencer said.
“It’s an ambitious project and we’ve got a lot of ideas to work on.”
We’re going to be able to tell you about it in the very next “Beyond Earth” update, Spencer said, but the studio hasn’t announced any other details.
“The team is building a lot more of a big, big game,” he added.
“We’ve got some pretty big stuff that we’re excited about and some stuff that’s still in development.”
Spencer noted the team is still working on “Beyond” and “Civilisation: Beyond Mars,” but it’s “really hard to say” when that game will be released.
“If we’re going in that direction, we have to wait and see what happens,” he said.
“Beyond Earth,” Microsoft’s first “Beyond,” was originally announced as “Civiles: Beyond the Planet Earth.”
That title has since been renamed “Civilians: Beyond Planet Earth,” but Spencer said that will likely change in the future.
The next “Big” game in the series is scheduled to launch in 2020.
